Graffiti- Is It An Art?

Since I moved back to San Francisco about 9 months ago, I've been noticing wonderful details about the city that I must have took for granted when I lived here. One of the things that fascinated me were the street tagging near my new neighborhood. If you drive down Alemany near Geneva, there is a row of graffiti that marks the backyard fence of many people's homes. I always pass and remember again and again how much I want to take photos of it, but never have my camera with me. Yesterday, I finally decided to go after visiting my friend Thip and seeing her awesome photographs of the graffiti near her place in the Mission. I dragged my friend Rena along and off we went. If you know me, you know that I am not a city girl, an urban girl, or by any means a great photographer. I am visually stimulated by beautiful things, usually in the forms of bags, shoes, and clothes. But I am also equally excited to see beautiful flowers, sceneries, and graffiti.

This past fall Hermes worked with graffiti artist KONGO on a artistic collaboration. His graffiti was made into Hermes' signature silk scarves. A client of mine had one on awhile ago and I could not help but fall in love with the vibrant splash of colors, the corners and edge of every letter, the marriage of luxury and street. Who would have thought that the ultimate luxury house would incorporate street art into their collection? But on the other hand, if anyone were to make street art fashionable, it would be the Hermes.

I guess you don't have to know much about anything to see beauty. I don't know much about graffiti, but I know it's art. Enjoy some of the photos I took and some pictures of the scarfs from Hermes.

This is my first post of 2012 and in a very long time.
